Visiting Karl in Tignes

We visited Karl Welter from the Telluride Ski Patrol on Exchange in Tignes for the 2015/16 winter. Thank you Karlito for the warm welcome and showing us around.

Karl lives in Tignes du Lac and is on exchange from Telluride, Colorado

Tignes (French pronunciation: [tiɲ]) is a commune in the Tarentaise Valley, Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France.

Together with nearby Val d'Isère, it forms the "Espace Killy" ski area. Tignes was the freestyle skiing venue for the 1992 Winter Olympics and co-host city for the 1992 Winter Paralympics.

It certainly helps having friends with local knowledge. Unlike Meribel a few weeks ago flying "neef Lucien" where I didn't know where to land until right before tak-off; this time we were in the "know" where and when to fly. Thank you Karl!

We could stash our skis at the Toviere patrol shack and there was enough wind for two laps with easy reverse take of and some thermic soaring to be had and even getting over launch.

This flight will be memorable.  Spectacular above Alpine scenery, exceptional conditions and fantastic company. There are many times that we don't get to fly, but if you don't keep trying you will never fly! Then the times that you do get to fly are just priceless… Of course not in the monetary sense you silly.

Here we land in Tignes, next to the lift, they share the LZ w dog sledding tours, ice diving, tonnes of walkers, ice skating and special events... Oh and the busy ski base area. NO PROBLEMS.
